Cancun, the Bahamas, Jamaica, London …. These all sound like great places to go for vacation, but can you put that much of a dent in your wallet in this recession? It’s all in the planning.

You have to truly know how much you can afford to spend without worrying when you get back and you need to know where to look to get the best deal and the best vacation. “Some places are considered inexpensive, but you don’t want to take away from a quality vacation,” said Adam Rubin of Greenbelt Travel Services.

Rubin gives several tips on traveling for the best vacation. “Ireland is about $600 per person – a bed and breakfast for a week. The problem is the airfare.” So how do you get around this problem? Penny-pinching is not the way to go, but a little planning goes a long way. Also, check out these sites to find the best deals: Kayak.com, Mobissimo.com and FareChaser.com.

Planning a trip to Europe? Consider the off-season, October through April. Don’t forget your guidebook – it’s as little as $20 and will go a long way when you arrive. This book gives you access to the best places to stay, eat and visit. It will also give you the most for your buck.

Want to take a cruise? Check your calendar because when school is out the price skyrockets. Thinking about the Caribbean? Try priceline.com which offers great deals. Get a balcony or suite aboard the Adventure of the Seas and travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten and other locations. For $700 you can travel and stop along some of the most beautiful ports for seven-to-ten days. You won’t want to return home.

Book your trip on Princess Cruise lines through expedia.com and travel to Alaska, Mexico or Europe. Spend seven nights for $399, that’s just $57 a day. The earlier you book the better; you can receive spending money during select sailings and a complimentary bottle of wine.

So where do you want to go? Take your trip and start planning. It could be your trip of a lifetime.
