Interactive Game Spotlights Bowie State University

Bowie’s stepping up its marketing and outreach credentials with video game approach to reaching its next crop of students.

The university recently launched an interactive game on the Bowie State University website (http://ruready.bowiestate.edu/) that showcases the campus, students and faculty, and encourages middle and high school students to begin preparing themselves for college.

“I think (the game) is really comprehensive and easy to use and understand. Many qualities of BSU are highlighted throughout,” said Maryland State Delegate James Hubbard in a recent statement.

School officials say the online game will become a key component of the school’s undergraduate campaign and will give Bowie’s recruiters a competitive edge in wooing new students.

During the game, competitors will encounter eight life scenarios that will force prudent decisions to keep them on the right path. Along the way, they may take a virtual tour and select ringtones, mobile video, and wallpapers; view a photo gallery, campus map, newsletter, and brochures; and obtain admissions and contact information. Winners get a chance to win $25 iTunes gift cards.

“We involved every unit on campus to provide content for the game,” said Tammi L. Thomas, director of university relations and marketing. “The game spotlights talented students, strong academic programs, excellent support services and a beautiful Bowie State University campus.”

Thomas said the university tapped the expertise of Global Design Interactive, an Owings Mills-based marketing firm, which provided support for the game. “We’re truly honored to partner with Bowie State University to develop a new paradigm to increase student enrollment, through an immersive interactive experience, to uncover one of the region’s hidden gems,” said Joseph Weaver, CEO of Global Design Interactive.
