2022 F-250 Diesel SRW 4X4 Crew Cab

Randi Payton // Decisive Media Network

The 2022 Ford F-250, the big brother to America's top-selling vehicle – the F-150, handles three-quarter and one-ton tasks. But, unlike many of its heavy-duty truck competitors, the F-250 has a lightweight aluminum body, allowing it to haul heavier loads.

When the F-250 is not hard at work, it performs well in everyday driving situations. With an advanced suspension calibrated to adjust to various road conditions, the SRW Crew Cab is smooth and powerful on the highway or cruising around town.

I tested the five-seat F-250 SRW Crew Cab, which stands for Single Rear Wheel. It is the best version for daily driving. However, the F-250 also offers an optional DRW or Dual Rear Wheel that has an extra set of wheels in the rear for towing heavier loads like RVs, boats, or large trailers.

The 2022 Ford-F-250 Crew Cab has one of the most luxurious interiors in the heavy-duty truck class with a long list of tech and safety features, including lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure prevention, blind-spot monitoring, trailer backup assist, automated emergency braking, to name a few. These features make long highway trips safer and less stressful.

The F-Series trucks' Bang & Olufsen sound system is also one of the best found in modern pickup trucks. The infotainment system also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

All models offer trailer tow cameras with a backup assist that allows self-steering during reverse. In addition, 360-degree cameras guide the truck while backing up a trailer. The package is standard in the King Ranch and optional in the lower-trim models.

Models/Price: The Ford F-250 Regular Cab starts as low as $36,495 MSRP for a rear-wheel-drive model, and the price varies based on cab size, bed lengths, engine types, and trim levels. The 2022 Ford F-250 Crew Cab Diesel ($85,885) that I drove around for a week was fully loaded with high-tech features and a long list of capabilities. The Ford F-250 Crew Cab Diesel is more truck than most people will ever need.

Other models in the F-250 Crew Cab lineup include the F-250 XL ($42,3215), XLT ($47,995), Lariat ($54,425), King Ranch ($62,980), Platinum ($67,210), and Limited ($85,885 MSRP).

Power: The 2022 Ford heavy-duty trucks offer several powertrain options, including a 7.3-liter eight-cylinder that generates 430 horsepower with 475 lb-ft of torque and the third-generation Power Stroke Turbo diesel eight-cylinder that produces 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a heavy-duty TorqShift 10-speed automatic transmission that delivers more towing and hauling power.

Fuel Economy: The 6.7 Powerstroke diesel averages 700 miles on a single tank of diesel fuel, although there are no EPA estimates on its fuel economy. You can find independent estimates at Edmunds.com, Motortrend.com, or Fuelly.com, which tracks gas mileage overtime to help calculate fuel expenses.

"I observed an average of 21 MPG, which is incredibly impressive for a truck of this size," reported Forbes.com
