Prince George’s County Steps In To Aid Restaurants And Local Businesses Harmed By Pandemic

By Raoul Dennis

Restaurants and businesses harmed by the ravages of COVID-19 may have additional support in keeping their doors open.

In a November 12 press conference, Prince George’s County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks announced the Restaurant Resiliency Fund.

“I am happy to announce that we are adding resources to aid our restaurants through our Restaurant Resiliency Fund,” Alsobrooks said. “We will be providing grants of up to $25,000 to Prince Georges County-based restaurants. Restaurants and food establishments may use the grant for COVID-19 related costs including PPE, winterization for outdoor seating and interior improvements for social distancing.”

Alsobrooks explained that applications will be reviewed and granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications will be accepted between November 13 and December 18. Applicants can learn more about the grant through the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation website (select “restaurant fund”).

“Please continue to support our restaurants and our businesses through this very difficult time,” she said.

In addition, the County Executive announced an upgrade to the COVID-19 Hourly Employee Relief Fund. Alsobrooks announced the Rapid Reemployment Grant.

The county has developed and launched several initiatives to help local businesses to navigate through the tough economic downturn.

The county’s Green Book, a digital guidebook connecting local and diverse suppliers with business opportunities and more, was launched in late August.

The Prince George’s Forward Task Force published its initial directives and guidelines for helping the county to build back better in October. The economic recovery subcommittee, led by Thomas Graham, offered several recommendations in addition to the Green Book.
