The impact of unemployment is a pressing issue in today’s society. It can have short-term and long-term effects on the economy, as well as on individuals and their families. When people are unemployed, it adversely affects tax revenue, social welfare programs, and crime rates. There is also a heavy burden on the business community. Due to covid-19, it’s been almost two years since many businesses have had to let staff go and find ways to stay afloat with lesser income and employees.
Recently, Employ Prince George’s ramped up their Rapid Re-Employment Grant Distribution Program to assist local businesses who hire unemployed job seekers in the county. On Thursday, the organization during a press conference passed out over $400,000 in grants to twelve local area businesses.
These grants are awarded through Employ Prince George’s COVID-19 Workforce Development Recovery Program’s Rapid Re-Employment Grant initiative, designed to help unemployed Prince George’s County residents gain employment. Representatives from Webhawkx, Star Struck Sports, LLC, Era Wine Bar, MTC Art Studios, Inc, The Moody Groop, Veez's Bizzy Beez's, Smajic LLC, Progeny Enterprises, The Denney House, Green Powered, Sankofa Health, and Major Image will be onsite to celebrate their grants with Employ Prince George’s CEO, Walter Simmons, and government officials/representatives from their districts who aided in providing the funding for this initiative.
