Getting On The Right Track
Becoming County Certified Is A Simple Process
The new and easy process for getting a business certified in Prince George's County for small business owners is just that, newer and easier. The Prince George’s County’s Supplier Development & Diversity Division (SDDD), is the primary advocate for local, small, disadvantaged, minority and veteran-owned businesses seeking to do business with local government. The office has made some changes to their process to help local businesses ensure that they’re afforded an equitable share of procurements and contracted dollar opportunities.
The ranks of women business owners are growing. There are 12.3 million women business owners in the U.S., according to the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), who employ nearly 9.4 million people and generate $1.8 trillion in annual revenue. And women of color are launching 64% of women-owned startups. However, most of these women haven’t had their companies certified as women-owned businesses. In fact, less than 1% are certified as owners of women-owned businesses.
The goal of the new process is to operate like a Business Highway, creating avenues for the growth and development of County-based Small (CBSB) and County-based MBE (CBMBE) businesses. In addition, the SDDD’s website also features the Supplier Directories for the following certification classifications:
● County-based Small;
● County-based;
● County-located;
● Minority Business Enterprise (MBE);
● Business Development Reserve Program (BDRP) businesses that are certified with Prince George’s County
SDDD is the official authorized certification agency for Prince George’s County. By becoming a certified business in Prince George’s County, a business may receive preference in procurement opportunities offered by local government.
