Maryland Among The Best States For Jobs
Maryland Is the State with the Best Unemployment Rate Change
With inflation slowing but prices still relatively high and the U.S. gaining 336,000 jobs in September, WalletHub released updated rankings for its report on Changes in Unemployment Rate by State, along with a WalletHub Q&A.
In order to take stock of how unemployment rates are changing throughout the U.S., WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on six key metrics that compare unemployment rate statistics from the latest month for which data is available (September 2023) to key dates in 2023, 2022, 2020 and 2019.
Maryland came in as the top-ranking state when it came to unemployment rate change. In August, it was ranked 19th best in this change, rising to first in September.
“Maryland has experienced the biggest decrease in unemployment because it has seen a 3.8% decrease in the number of unemployed persons from August 2023 to September 2023, compared to the average increase of 2.6%,” said Cassandra Happe, WalletHub Analyst. “Maryland’s overall unemployment rate is 1.6%, compared to the average of 3.8%.”
Happe also talked about the state that has the biggest increase in unemployment and the reason this state is experiencing it. “New Hampshire has experienced the biggest increase in unemployment because the number of unemployed persons jumped by 9.8% from August 2023 to September 2023, compared to the average increase of 2.6%. New Hampshire’s overall unemployment rate is 2%, compared to the average of 3.8%.”
