4x4: Ephemeral Architectures

  • The Music Center at Strathmore 5301 Tuckerman Lane North Bethesda, MD, 20852 United States (map)

What in the world do ballet and juggling have in common? Both are mathematical, architectural, and athletic endeavors based on people tracing pathways in space. Be there as four jugglers and four ballet dancers share a stage in this cross-art-form experience, leaving unseen patterns everywhere, defying the limitations of gravity and inspiring awe in the audience. Directed by world renowned juggler Sean Gandini, and choreographed by Royal Ballet dancer Ludovic Ondiviela, the show features the original composition Suspended opus 69 by Nimrod Borenstein as well as the lighting design talent of Guy Hoars. Accompanying the performance is rogue collective, an innovative DC-based string ensemble.

  • Gandini Juggling was formed in 1992 by Sean Gandini and Kati Ylä-Hokkala.
  • 4x4: Ephemeral Architectures premiered at the 2015 London International Mime Festival at the Royal Opera House, where it received rave reviews.
  • Pop music, Indian dance, and the circus have all been the inspiration for this juggling dance troupe.
