The Opus 40 Ensemble is a chamber ensemble dedicated to the performance of music for  natural horn. The ensemble explores the varied chamber repertoire for this instrumentation that exists as original works and as transcriptions. The group performs music from all time periods on the appropriate horns (baroque natural, classical natural, and valve). They also use period keyboards (harpsichord, fortepiano, pianoforte) when available.

Originally a trio with violin, piano, and horn, Opus 40 Ensemble began rehearsing together January 2011.

We have performed at several venues across the Maryland area and hope to continue to refine their performances with many more rehearsals and performances to come.

The ensemble's name is a tribute to Johannes Brahms' Horn Trio in Eb, Op. 40--the most renowned work for this instrumentation.
