Piotr Gajewski, conductor
Leonard Bernstein’s beautiful score for the Oscar-winning film On the Waterfront (1954) is his only work composed specifically for film. He created a powerful musical rendition of the drama, conveying the individual characters through music of unfailing appeal and expressiveness. Nobility, violence, corruption, tenderness, aspiration, frustration, resignation. The gamut of human emotions and dramatic situations from the film are fully realized in Bernstein’s score. Bernstein’s music was nominated for an Academy Award for "Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture" and has been recognized by the American Film Institute as one of the best film scores of all time.
