MESSIAEN Turangalîla-symphonie
Marin Alsop conducts Messiaen’s Turangalîla-symphonie, one of the most innovative works of the 20th century. The title comes from two Sanskrit words: "turanga"means movement and rhythm, and "Lîla" refers to a cosmic game. The range of colors and moods in this exotic work, including more than 100 musicians, features a dazzling, concerto-like part for piano, played by world-renowned pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and another for the eerie keyboard instrument ondes Martenot with its otherworldly sci-fi sounds. This mind-blowing work takes listeners on a journey of extreme dynamic contrasts, from sensuous whispers to almost deafening force. A lifetime event to hear!
This concert is not presented by Strathmore.
