Responding to the accelerated pace of modern life, Dottie Campbell pushes the limits of the interaction between camera, artist, and the world in her recent series of large-scale, amplified color photographs. Using a moving-camera capture technique allows the artist to imprint a physical response to the energy discovered on location and to abstract her subjects by obscuring detail, altering form, and creating new patterns. Through her own movement, not that of her subjects, Campbell is no longer a passive recorder of found compositions, but rather becomes performance artist, choreographer, painter, and creator in the photographic realm.
