Dance Institute of Washington presents Magic Kente Cloth. This story ballet is about the Kente Cloth—a silk fabric made of interwoven strips of cloth, known for its dazzling multicolored patterns and geometric designs. The Imani Tribe celebrates love and new beginnings through dance and fellowship as the King passes down the cloth to his son, the Crowned Prince, and his bride. They are both ecstatic about receiving this gift; however, the older brother becomes envious and creates conflict. Each color of the Kente Cloth has a symbolic meaning, and the different dances throughout the play will show how each meaning brings love and forgiveness by working together while maintaining their unity.
