An evening of short films including the debut of a poetic Whitman trilogy by local filmmaker H. Paul Moon, followed by a live performance of experimental/improvisational musicians responding to silent films and readings of Whitman. Then, after a brief video essay exploring Whitman’s poetry in the history of cinema and television, the evening concludes with visual settings of “Poets to Come” and more by local students, in tribute to Whitman’s prescient vision for diversifying generations after his time.
This is part of the multi-venue, 12-day Walt Whitman 200 Festival, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of America’s most significant and enduring poets, who was a resident of Washington, DC for ten years during and after the Civil War.
