Celebrate the 200th Birthday of Walt Whitman, who ignited the birth of Modern American Poetry. In alignment with Whitman’s Queer Identity, Artists from the 9th Annual Capturing Fire Festival perform spoken word with special musical performance by ethno-musicologist, banjo and violinist Jake Blount. This is part of the multi-venue, 12-day Walt Whitman 200 Festival, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of America’s most significant and enduring poets, who was a resident of Washington, DC for ten years during and after the Civil War.
