Two of music’s immortals are honored in this show from Newmyer Flyer paying tribute to Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. Janis Joplin hailed from Port Arthur Texas where she fell in love with the deep blues and soul she heard on the radio. Her legendary live performances and wildly charismatic personae cemented her legacy. Audiences were spellbound by the passion she brought to every song. She was essentially the first rock-mama and brought the blues to millions. There hasn’t been one like her since.
Jimi Hendrix burst just like a supernova on the world stage in 1967 when he released “Are You Experienced” a mind-blowing display of guitar virtuosity and songwriting genius. It was an instant sensation and coincided with the advent of FM radio. Hendrix’s electrifying live performances were second to none and even in an era full of legends, like Joplin, he was somehow peerless.
This show will tribute the best of each of these iconic artists recorded work, featuring smash hits, career bests, and deep cuts all performed by 20 of D.C.’s finest musicians.
