Slapping the acoustic guitar, Raul Midón has a funky, percussive style of strumming that ripples beneath his soulful, sweet tenor. It’s like Stevie Wonder having a go at flamenco. Like Wonder, Midón was born blind and has overcome adversity with flair. His cutting-edge, Grammy-nominated 2017 album, Bad Ass and Blind, was produced and engineered using computer software designed for the visually impaired. Midón will be joined by another virtuosic guitarist, Benin-born electric jazz performer Lionel Loueke. Loueke has been praised by such stalwarts as Paul Simon who noted that Loueke is “one of a rare handful of guitarists that move effortlessly between his West African roots and modern American Jazz.”
