Contemporary African Artists often create works that not only reveal themselves, but also their thoughts and beliefs about the economic, political and environmental climate from which they came. In a world that dictates social norms of beauty and acceptance that influence perceptions and challenge reality, participants will be asked for a moment to reflect and express themselves through the following. First Imagine hair as an accessory and not a necessity, where hair is seen as a material and used like an object. Taking this perspective, participants use their imagination to create an accessory or object of their choice using the provided material. Second, participants will be required to explore their personal thoughts about themselves and define who they are through words and imagery in a creative poetic composition.
