Native American Heritage Month is an excellent time to learn about the Afro-Indigenous history of the Americas
About this event
Join us to explore the intersections between the Black experience and Tuscarora experience in Maryland. The Tuscaroras lived in the Carolinas when Europeans first encountered them, and a significant majority of the Tuscarora moved North in the 1700s. Their migration took them through Maryland, where they were forced out through migration known as The Tuscarora' Trail of Tears'. The migration took place northward, through Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, and into New York. Dr. Arwin Smallwood leads an interactive discussion about the history of the Tuscarora and their relevance to Maryland's history.
