Trauma has been a defining characteristic of the African American experience. And though traumatic experiences grounded in racial injustice continue, increasing attention has been paid to this history and its consequences over the past few years.
In April, the State Legislature unanimously passed Healing Maryland’s Trauma Act. This groundbreaking legislation establishes the Commission on Trauma-Informed Care and calls for a statewide healing framework. Through an intergenerational panel discussion, we will consider this new legislation and its potential effects on the black community as we collectively chart a path towards healing.
