American tenor David Portillo, a star on the rise, last appeared at the Kennedy Center as Prince Tamino in Washington National Opera's 2019 presentation of Maurice Sendak's production of Mozart's "The Magic Flute," a role he has also sung to acclaim at the Metropolitan Opera. In collaboration with pianist Craig Terry, he makes his Washington recital debut performing songs by Samuel Barber, Benjamin Britten, Alberto Ginastera and Carlos Guastavino.
