S.T.E.A.M. Activities Celebrating Black Scientists

Stop in every Wednesday of Black History Month from 3 to 8pm for a S.T.E.A.M. activity celebrating a different Black Scientific Innovator. These crafts and activities are great for kids of any age who want to learn about Black excellence in science and engineering. These activities are contact-free; tables will be set up with the materials and directions you need to complete the activity on your own, without having to interact with staff or patrons more than you feel comfortable. Activities are scheduled as follows (schedule subject to change):

February 2nd: Time yourself in a speed-math challenge with Katherine Johnson, the pioneering mathematician of NASA

February 9th: Paint space-landscapes with Mae Jemison, the first Black woman in space

February 16th: Mix colors together to create your own stoplight with Garrett Morgan, the inventor of the stoplight and much more

February 23rd: Experiment with our Makey Makey tool to make your own gaming experiences with Jerry Lawson, the inventor of the videogame cartridge
