Cheverly African American Community Organization (CAACO)
CAACO will host our 3rd annual Juneteenth celebration on Sunday June 19, 2022. The event will take place at Cheverly Town Hall after the parade that starts at 10:00 AM. The Buffalo Soldiers Organization will conduct the Juneteenth flag raising ceremony. Come out and enjoy the festivities, good food, guest speakers, and more!
Juneteenth occurs on Father's Day in 2022. This year's national theme will be recognition of the Founding Fathers of Freedom, the United States Colored Troops (USCT) who proudly marched into Galveston Texas in their uniforms, gold buttons shining in the sun, announcing freedom to those still held enslaved. Their message resulted in General Order #3 being written and posted on the door of a Colored church (present-day) Reedy Chapel informing all of their Absolute Equality.
