Kennedy Center Culture Caucus member One Journey presents a panel discussion and film screening at the REACH.
7:00pm-8:30pm:
Cultivating Communities of Welcome
PANEL DISCUSSION | RIVER PAVILION
Join One Journey and the Immigration Film Festival (IFF) for a pre-screening discussion on Cultivating Communities of Welcome. For newcomer refugees and immigrants, it can be not only difficult but frightening to integrate into a new and foreign community. This journey toward integration can be made much easier when the host community is actively creating opportunities for welcoming. Join Nyamuon Nguany Machar “Moon”, a spoken word poet, army veteran, and activist, and Charles C. Stuart, a writer, producer, and director, as they discuss welcoming in the U.S. Moon will share her experience as a refugee to a predominately white community in Maine and her work to welcome refugees and immigrants to her community since. We'll hear from Charles about his film I Come From Away, which features Moon's story, and how film can be used as a tool to promote positive narratives around immigration and refugee resettlement.
Dusk - 11pm: I Come From Away: An Immigrant in Maine
