Stéphane Denève opens this spirited program with Connesson’s Maslenitsa, written in celebration of the sun-soaked Slavic folk festival. Then, powerhouse pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet performs Khachaturian’s Piano Concerto—an evocative work of driving rhythms, distinct flavors, and charm. To close, Ravel’s majestic orchestration of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition carries us through a gallery of soul-stirring emotion.
