Honor the Fallen: WWI Living History Weekend - "A Soldier's Journey: First Illumination"

Please join the World War I Centennial Commission and The Doughboy Foundation on Friday, September 13, 2024, at sundown for the First Illumination of “A Soldier’s Journey,” the magnificent bronze sculpture that will serve as the centerpiece of the National World War I Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue. A viewing area will be set up at Freedom Plaza, 1325 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, for the general public.

The WWI Living History Weekend continues throughout Sept. 14 and 15, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the war’s impact on the nation. Visitors can fully immerse themselves in the past with living history demonstrations featuring World War I reenactors, including the famous Hello Girls. Additionally, they can explore captivating historical presentations from the WWI 100th Anniversary Mobile Museum and view authentic WWI vehicles on display. The weekend will feature live musical performances by renowned ensembles, including the American Expeditionary Forces Headquarters Band and the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps.
