Khalid is a nontraditional R&B singer-songwriter known for understated, heartfelt vocals and a relatable perspective. After uploading early songs, he quickly signed to a major label. His breakout single "Location," released just after high school, gradually became a Top 20 pop hit around the release of American Teen (2017), one of the decade’s biggest debuts. In about a year he went from unknown teenager to platinum pop star with Grammy nods for "Location," American Teen, and a feature on "1-800-273-8255." Free Spirit (2019) topped the Billboard 200; between albums he scored Top Ten hits with "Love Lies" and "Eastside" through collaborations. He returned with the 2021 mixtape Scenic Drive (The Tape) and in 2024 released his third album, Sincere, led by two R&B Top Ten singles.
