Join us at Concord Historic Site for Maryland Emancipation Day — an afternoon of living history, music, storytelling, food, and community commemorating the end of slavery in Maryland. On November 1, 1864, Maryland’s Constitution freed over 30,000 African Americans. At Concord, a former tobacco plantation where generations were enslaved, Emancipation Day remembers that past and celebrates the skills, creativity, traditions, and resilience Black people carried through enslavement to build families, businesses, institutions, and communities after emancipation.
