Yuri Ortuño Leon

Born in the mining town of Huanuni (Bolivia), Yuri Ortuño was inclined toward Andean music from a very young age. During the 1980s and part of the 1990s, he was the founder, director, and vocalist of the group “Proyección,” turning into one of the most popular and international representatives of Bolivia’s and Latin American folklore and winning 5 gold records and one platinum. His repertoire comprises traditional Bolivian rhythms such as kañuyo, huayño, and tonada, among others.

With his current group, “Nueva Proyección,” an instrumental and vocal ensemble that includes traditional Andean instruments such as charangos, roncocos, zampoñas, quenas, and huancara, in addition to the guitar, he makes an emotive journey along 50 years of artistic career.
