Hispanic Heritage Ready 2 Read Storytime: Ages 3-5

Bring your preschooler as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage month with stories, songs, fingerplays, and more in Spanish and English! If it rains, we will meet in the Ready 2 Read program room.

Please be advised that the status, location, or format of this event may change based on COVID-19 pandemic conditions. Please visit this page prior to traveling to the branch/venue for the program.

  • Face masks and physical distancing are required for all participants over the age of 2.

Black Books Matter Day 2022

MahoganyBooks will celebrate its annual Black Books Matter ay at National Harbor in Prince George's County, Maryland, on August 6, 2022. Black Books Matter Day was proclaimed annually on the first Saturday of August in Prince George’s County by Angela Alsobrooks, Prince George’s County Executive. Black Books Matter Day was founded in 2021 to recognize authors of the African diaspora and the readers who support and are empowered by the culturally diverse representation of their literary works. The celebration will include reading the Black Books Matter Day Proclamation, a poem commemorating the day, and a book signing featuring How Exceptional Black Women Lead by Dr. Avis Jone-Deweever at 1:30pm.

The Prince George's County Memorial Library System will be on hand to distribute library cards to all those interested. 1-3pm.

Black History Month Literary Weekend Jazz Brunch

The Black History Month Literary Weekend is a celebration of literacy and history through music, author interviews, and youth empowerment!

The purpose of the Black History Month Literary Weekend is to celebrate literacy while introducing young adults to a part of Black History beyond what they learn in school. This year we will feature four internationally best-selling authors over two days of musical entertainment, prizes, author interviews, and our annual 8th and 9th grade essay contest.

This year's Literary Jazz Brunch will be an Ivory and Cream Affair, so make sure you come showing out in your ivory best! Events will include: A full buffet, mimosa bar, live music, fashion show, door prizes, author interviews.

National Book Festival occurs during National Hispanic Heritage Month and Hispanic authors have been pre-recorded.

The 20th annual Library of Congress National Book Festival will be held online Sept. 25-27.

A special National Book Festival broadcast will air on PBS on September 27 at 6 P.M. ET. The following Hispanic authors will participate:  Sandra Cisneros, Angela Dominguez, Kali Fajardo-Anstine, Juan Felipe Herrera, Edward Melillo.
