Moments of Prince George’s

Prose By Rhett Butler // PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROY MOMENT

Prince George’s County is a region of artistry. You might be scratching your head if you are uninitiated to the subtleties of the expansive county but we who know sit back and savor the artistic rarities of our environment.

From North, Central, to the South parts of the County beauty abounds and there are some unsung creatives documenting the vibe and canonizing the people and places as they are today.

When exiting County Executive Rushern Baker delivered his final State of the County address April 18, the accomplishments achieved under his administration were rolled out like a vibrant story quilt. Within the positive economic data and tales of how the county’s familial environment allowed teamwork to prevail and adversities to be vanquished, the beauty was even more apparent

Prince George’s County is becoming a region where people can live, work, and play while incubating a love so supreme within the county’s artisans that they are inspired collectively to match the efforts of government by further beautifying the many cities and towns and journaling the touching moments people have during this time of economic uplift.

Enter photographer, videographer, and overall life chronicler, Roy Moment. This Laurel resident left a secure and growing work in construction to follow his passion for creative imagery. Through his lens, Moment has seen the touching kiss from a husband to his wife under the National Harbor wheel. Roy has captured the smiling family enjoying the various parks and nature trails and of course the beautiful millennial ready to change the world with their sheer opposition towards it.

It’s a life collected in moments, pun intended, and those moments created a collage that brought into focus a new life woven piece by piece like a tapestry.

Moment uses the backdrop of a growing Prince George’s culture and economy to provide a landscape for his challenging and compelling photography.

New buildings like the MGM Grand National Harbor and The Hotel at University of Maryland at College Park boast a collection of art from local artisans with more development-meets-art projects in the pipeline. Artists are staying and tabling traditional arts hubs such as New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. The county is a rising arts haven and its beauty abounds through the eyes of its resident creators.

Roy Moment’s Perception Studios, a Gateway Arts-based space is named that because that’s how he feels about the county he has chosen to raise his family and to create within. He believes the perception of the county is changing and that is occurring as a result of intentional efforts, or, in his view Being Intentional.

Fittingly, Roy now works in the mouth of the Gateway Arts District relishing his position at the vanguard of a new era in Prince George’s; one where perception is driving the narrative. His lens is now also laying yet another texture to the storyline and it is because of fearless creators like Roy that we can savor the moments in a county redefining greatness through the courage of its people.
