Slowing Down The Hard Drive
State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy Leads New Effort To Curb Fatal Crashes
The Drive Focused, Sober & Safe Campaign to address the recent rise in fatal car crashes in the county will be hosted at the Southern Regional Technology And Recreation Center April 27 from 9 a.m.to 1:30 p.m.
“One life is too many to be lost to unsafe driving. It is imperative that citizens make safe driving a top priority when on the road. This initiative comes at a critical time when the number of fatal car crashes are on the rise,” said State’s Attorney Braveboy. “In the last six months, there have been over 40 fatal car crashes in which over 50 people died. Many of these crashes were the result of impaired or distracted driving. In some cases, lives could have been spared if appropriate safety restraints were used. This campaign is about saving lives.”
The campaign is the latest effort to address the issue of distracted, speed and substance influenced driving. County Councilmember Monique Anderson Walker launched the #DrivingItHome Campaign in February.
“We can’t just legislate this away,” Anderson Walker said. “We have to change the culture. Young people will have to make that happen. This is important to me as a mother and as a family member. ”
Anderson-Walker began a series of discussions at local schools to emphasize the responsibility of driving and warn of the dangers.
