Prince George's Cultural Arts Foundation Brings Star Power To The Lake Arbor Jazz Series’ Songwriting And Music Masterclass For Teens

Young music fans looking to pick the brain of industry experts are attending a series of workshops, in conjunction with the Lake Arbor Jazz Summer Concert Series at National Harbor, PGCAF, in partnership with the Prince George's Arts and Humanities Council (PGAHC) on July 7 and July 15.

Taking advice from the professionals, the workshop features Grammy-nominated artist & songwriter Raheem DeVaughn and artist Wes Felton.

“Songwriters Workshop “
The workshop offered the inside scoop about spoken word, singing and songwriting from a music industry leader and come away with techniques to take singing and songwriting skills to a new level. Award-winning artist Raheem DeVaughn and Artist Wes Felton of Crossrhodes, hosted a workshop for teens in high school and college. The workshop leaders discussed a variety of songwriting and poetry writing topics and techniques. The workshop was designed to provide participants with an opportunity to create and perform original songs and poems while receiving feedback from peers and artists.

"From the Jungle to the Go Go"

Two local band members, will lead African Drumming & Percussions Masterclass on July 15. This workshop and Master Class is targeted to Pre-Teens and children and provides a comprehensive look at percussion from several perspectives, to include Go Go and West African/Afro Cuban rhythms. The workshop will delve into the rich culture and origins of many styles of drumming, as well as the commonalities they share. Audience participation is encouraged and the workshop will conclude with a Question and Answer session. The workshop will be held at the National Harbor Capital Wheel Pier Tent. This Master Class will be conducted by master percussionist, Steve Perkins of DMV Band Phaze II and Milton (Go Go Mickey) Freeman.
