Members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. decked the Gaylord out in crimson and cream over Labor Day weekend, converging on Prince George’s County for the organization's 53rd Eastern Regional Conference. After years of planning delays due to the pandemic, sorority sisters couldn’t contain their excitement to finally meet in person.
“I’m in gorgeous Prince George’s County having a ball at our Eastern Regional Conference, enjoying all the fellowship and bonding after our COVID experience--just loving on our Sorors and having a great time,” said Washington D.C. Alumnae Chapter member Natasha Osborne.
Over 3,600 sorority members from D.C. to Maine flocked to the Gaylord at National Harbor, ready to enjoy four days of work sessions, banquets and celebrations. The festivities kicked off with live appearances on WUSA 9 with sorority members and news anchors Allison Seymour and Lesli Foster and continued throughout the weekend with a packed agenda focused on sisterhood, scholarship, service and social action.
The sorority was founded in the Eastern Region in 1913 at Howard University. For first-time conference attendees like Karen Ashton-Sterling of the Baltimore Alumnae Chapter, this was an event she couldn’t miss.
“This has been all that they said it was going to be and a whole lot more. When they said you ain’t seen nothing yet, they were correct-- fabulous, fierce, for my fantastic loving Divas.”
The conference was hosted by several Maryland chapters, including the Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter, the Fort Washington Alumnae Chapter, the Kappa Phi Chapter at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the Zeta Delta Chapter at Bowie State University. The sorority will next gather at their national convention in Indianapolis, In during summer 2023.
