CAAPA Holiday Extravaganza
Annual Holiday Performances Begin With Holiday Cheer
Each year, the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA) presents a full calendar of arts and humanities programming that is tailored for families, seniors, and youth in the county for people to share together in celebration of the holiday season. CAAPA, a non-profit that helps support Black classical musicians, youth, seniors, and others in the performing arts has not missed the mark in delivering a festive list of activities including musicals, art seminars, and sharing the traditions of Kwanzaa Celebration. Announcing its 2022 schedule, these events will take place during the month of December at the newly opened CAAPA Cultural Center located at 1900 Tucker Road in Fort Washington.
This year’s activities include:
Saturday, December 10, 2022, 4:00 pm
“What Sweeter Music Christmas Cantata”. This original musical holiday concert is composed by physician Dr. Timothy Amukele, reflects a fusion of American, classical, and African sounds, and features dancers and chorus. Donation of $10.00 is recommended to support CAAPA programming.
Sunday, December 11, 2022, 3:00 pm
“Peter and The Wolf”. Prokofiev's beloved musical story co-presented by CAAPA and PG Philharmonic and features the acclaimed actress Phylicia Rashad as Narrator, along with dancers, visual effects, and a festive holiday musical sing-along led by Washington National Opera soprano Simone Paulwell. Fees apply and tickets may be purchased through the college’s website.

“HIDDEN HANDEL” Learn the truth about “The Messiah” composer G.F. Handel and his involvement in the African Slave Trade” from members of the National Philharmonic, CAAPA, and historians.

“Holiday Musicale” Live show and catered luncheon with festive holiday songs, jazz, and R&B featuring songstress Queen BE – Betty Entzminger and the CAAPA Generations Chorus. Presented by the CAAPA. 60+ARTS (Active Retired Talented & Terrific Seniors) program. Cost: $25. Includes buffet lunch and entertainment.

“Kwanzaa Celebration” Enjoy a one-hour festive celebration highlighting Kwanzaa’s principles and traditions in your African garb. Listen to African drumming and enjoy an African dancing demonstration. Presented by the CAAPA 60+ARTS (Active Retired Talented & Terrific Seniors)
