Educators and Artists Can Now Have Access to ‘A Choice of Weapons: Inspired by Gordon Parks
Area teachers and those who lead workshops, especially aimed at youth and education can signup to get access to the documentary ‘A Choice of Weapons: Inspired by Gordon Parks,’ which premiered on November 30, 2021 on HBO. The film is available through the Michon Boston Group and is partnered with Kunhardt Film Foundation (KFF) on the educational engagement initiative for the documentary. Educators and teachers can request the film until February 6, 2022.
MBG and KFF are working together to build a community of classroom teachers, museum educators, and art and photography teachers who seek to share Gordon Parks’ story, photographs, and inspiration for using art as a platform for social change. The film is available from KFF (no licensing fee) for streaming in classrooms and for public programs (no admission fee) occurring on and after February 6, 2022 for a limited time.
A Discussion Guide for the film will be available the week of February 6, 2022. Lesson Plans (for high school and life-long learning) will be available the week of February 13, 2022. These resources were written by Blueshift Education. Both will be on the Kunhardt Film Foundation website for downloading (again no fees for these resources). The trailer for the film is also available on YouTube.
A Choice of Weapons: Inspired by Gordon Parks explores the power of images in advancing racial, economic, and social equality as seen through the lens of Gordon Parks, one of America's most trailblazing artists, and the generation of young photographers, filmmakers, and activists he inspired.
