A Day-On: Community Service Projects Throughout The County
Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service (MLK Day) is designated as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.” Participation in service activities has grown each year as more Americans are encouraged to provide meaningful change in their communities. Known as MLK Day of Service there are several service projects that strengthen communities, empower individuals, bridge barriers, and create solutions happening throughout Prince George’s County.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Community Clean Up
Monday, January 16, 2023; 10am-12pm
Join District 8 Cares Volunteers for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Community Clean Up on Monday, January 16th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. The District 8 Office is partnering with The Denney House and a number of other organizations to pick up litter in the district, specifically around 210 and other identified litter hot spots. Day of Service MLK Jr Day
Monday, January 16, 2023; All-Day
Prince George's County Councilmember Wala Blegay-District 6 is hosting a community service event on January 16th, collecting towelettes for people in-need. The items can be donated in-person or donated via Amazon. On the day of January 16th,, participants can drop-off the suggested items at Starbucks located in Largo and will help those located at the Promise Place Men's Shelter. Amazon list of items here.
Literary Leaders and Friends" present "Poetry To Honor A King Virtual Event
Monday, January 16, 2023; 3pm-5pm
Literary Leaders, a group of poets based in Prince George's County, Maryland who have demonstrated their commitment to literary excellence and service to poetry, will partner with like-minded poets from across the country (...and possibly beyond!), to present a virtual poetry tribute honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Register here.

Join us in-person or virtually on Monday, January 16, 2023, as we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We invite you and your entire family to kick off our volunteering initiative by “Cultivating a Beloved Community Mindset.” Inspired by Dr. King, we’re encouraging all members to complete one or more of our service projects and give back to the community in which we reside. All of these projects are family-friendly and open to all ages, except where noted. All supplies and materials will be provided. Volunteering assignments are given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. Prınce George’s County Chapter , Top Teens of America - Prınce George's County Chapter, “Pink and Blue” National Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Community Toiletry Collection Event on Sunday, January 22, 2023 in collaboration with Junior League of Prince George's County and Delta Psi Epsilon Christian Sorority. We are collecting toiletries that will be donated to senior living facilities, toiletry pantries and other local nonprofits in need located in Prince George's County, Maryland.
