Laurel’s Next Must-Visit Wine Destination Is Officially on the Way
Something special is taking root in Laurel—and it’s going to be worth the wait. With a ceremonial shovel in the ground on February 6, construction officially began on Clyopatra Winery & Vineyard Village Resort, a sweeping vineyard destination that promises to change how Prince George’s County does wine, leisure, and weekend escapes.
Spread across roughly 41 acres near Jupiter and Duckettown Roads, the project will roll out in carefully planned phases. The first experiences—vineyard plantings, agricultural infrastructure, and an intimate winery tasting room—are expected to come online after construction and initial growing cycles are complete, positioning the opening for wine lovers to begin in the months following the February 2026 groundbreaking. In other words: this is a “watch it grow, then drink it” kind of destination.
Once open, Clyopatra Winery & Vineyard Village Resort will offer far more than a casual pour. Visitors can look forward to curated wine tastings, a thoughtfully designed tasting room, scenic vineyard views, and a future village-style setting that blends agriculture, hospitality, and culture. It’s designed to be a place where afternoons stretch into evenings, conversations linger, and wine is enjoyed as an experience—not a rush.
Founded by entrepreneur Ifeoma C. Onyia, the winery already holds historic distinction as the first African immigrant-owned winery in the United States and the largest Black-owned winery in Maryland. With this expansion, it is on track to become the largest Black female-owned winery and vineyard on the East Coast—an achievement that adds meaning to every bottle poured.
For now, the vines are just beginning their journey. But soon enough, Laurel will have a new reason to toast—one rooted in legacy, culture, and very good wine.
