Bowie State University Offers Students Hardship Assistance In Response to COVID-19

Bowie State University is proving once again that it is a beacon for its students.

In these unprecedented times, Bowie State University recognizes that their students need help more than ever. A Student Hardship Assistance program has been established in response to COVID-19.

Donations to the Student Hardship Assistance program will provide the university with the resources to assist students facing housing issues and travel expenses due to residential hall closings, food insecurity, technology required to access online and virtual classes, gaps in financial aid funding and other unforeseen challenges.

Alumni have stepped up! To date, nearly $24,000 has been raised to aid students. But much more is needed. Donations can be designated to go toward the Student Emergency Fund, BSU Food Pantry, and/or the Bowie Fund (area of greatest need).

In partnership with Food Lion, the university opened the Nutrition Lounge in February, a food pantry offering free and nutritious food for students who are food insecure. Toiletries are also offered.

Another way to help students is to donate new laptops so that students can complete their studies. Donated laptops should follow these specifications/guidelines:

  • Processor Model - Intel 10th Generation Core i7 or i5

  • System Memory (RAM) - 8GB (or higher)

  • Solid State Drive - 256GB (or higher)

  • Screen Size - 14" (or higher)

  • Webcam

  • Wi-Fi capable

  • Operating System Windows 10

Your gift-in-kind donation is tax-deductible. Please note that Chromebooks cannot be accepted.

Students can find up-to-date COVID-19 information and what’s going on at BSU at this link.
