WETATi Academy Open House
Local Nonprofit Hosts Open House To Engage New Community And Business Partners
WETATi Academy is hosting an open house for community and business leaders on April 26, 6:00 p.m., at the Country Club at Woodmore, 12320 Pleasant Prospect, Mitchellville, MD. The objective is to highlight its award-winning services for Prince George’s County youth and the Washington Metropolitan area and networking opportunity.
“We are excited that WETATi Academy was able to pivot its program during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide our students with training and information that kept them engaged and encouraged during a very challenging season,” said Ambassador Dr. Margaret Dureke, Founder and Executive Director. “We invite everyone, current partners and prospective partners–funders, youth advocates, educators, and parents.”
"From STEM to financial management to entrepreneurship, and how to carry yourself professionally, the organization gets it done,” said Jimmie Jones, VP, Community Development Manager, Truist. “I, along with Truist, am happy to work with and continue to support WETATi Academy."
“I joined WETATi Academy in 2020 during the peak of the pandemic,” said Karyn, a student at College Park Academy. “I was in a virtual environment, and I didn't know anything about savings, STEM, and entrepreneurship. I was an 11-year-old who lost her father. WETATi helped me cope by helping me and my brother make a business that is about our dad and how to cope with grief.”
The WETATi Academy Community Open House is sponsored by one of its’ strategic partners, Kaiser Permanente, as well as The Country Club at Woodmore, Wegmans, SA-TECH Inc., and others.
WETATi Academy (We’re Empowered to Achieve The impossible), established in 2012, educates and empowers low-to-moderate income youth (11-25 years old) on how to become financially independent through practical and experiential activities that prepare them for employment, entrepreneurship, and future economic opportunities.
