A Growing Problem
Childhood Obesity Rates At All-Time High
Obesity rates among U.S. adults reached an all-time high last year of nearly 40% – so it’s no wonder that childhood obesity rates are on the same path. In 2017, 19% of U.S. children were obese. That’s the highest number ever recorded. It’s time to have an honest conversation about the dangers of childhood obesity. Think about this:
Children who are obese are at a higher risk for asthma, sleep apnea, joint problems, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Children who are obese are more likely to suffer from isolation and depression than their peers.
The good news is that as a parent, you have the power to help your child lose weight. From changing the way you eat as a family to organizing family walks and bike rides, lifestyle changes are essential.
But none of this is easy. So take advantage of the resources available to you: Work with your child’s pediatrician, and get support from Healthy Lifestyles.
