“Fitness In The Parks” Exercise Program Offers Free Yoga Classes This Summer For Individuals, Families
Yoga is an ancient practice that brings together mind and body. Incorporating breathing exercises, meditation and poses designed for relaxation and stress reduction, yoga offers improved mental and physical health. Through the Fitness in the Parks exercise program, Prince George’s County offers yoga to individuals and families to improve their quality of life.
The Benefits of Yoga
According to the American Osteopathic Association, the benefits of yoga include increased flexibility, muscle strength and tone; improved respiration, energy and vitality; maintaining a balance metabolism; weight reduction; cardio and circulatory health; improved athletic performance; and protection from injury. Backed by science, it also reduces stress, relieves anxiety, and may fight depression; reduces inflammation that could lead to chronic health issues such as heart disease; could improve heart health; reduces chronic pain; improves breathing; promotes sleep quality; may relieve migraines; and improves quality of life.
Fitness In The Parks – Yoga Style
Fitness in the Parks is a free exercise program that brings a variety of fitness opportunities to parks and natural areas across Prince George’s County. Residents can choose a class based on their fitness goals. No prior registration is required. Registration is completed at the beginning of each class.
Enjoy quality family time through the movement of yoga. This class is acceptable for all levels of fitness and is for those ages 6 and over. Build strength, relieve stress, improve flexibility, and maintain health and overall well-being. Classes are Mondays, 8:30am to 9:30am through August 26 at the Tucker Road Athletic Complex, 1770 Tucker Road, Fort Washington, MD.
