Fort Washington Medical Center Earns An "A" for Patient Safety

Fort Washington Medical Center has earned an "A" Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog that evaluates hospitals across the United States for their commitment to patient safety.

The top grade places Fort Washington Medical Center among the elite hospitals in the country for implementing stringent safety protocols and delivering high standards of care. The biannual report card, released this spring, evaluates over 3,000 general hospitals on 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.

“When we say that we will be a trusted choice for exceptional care in the community we serve, we mean it. Attaining an ‘A’ safety grade reflects the boldness we have taken to reach new heights of excellence, compassion and innovation,” said FWMC President Daffodil Baez. “Hope and healing are synonymous with the work we do here every day at FWMC. I'm honored to lead such a phenomenal team at the only grade 'A’ hospital in Prince George's County.”

Leapfrog's Hospital Safety Grade is a highly respected benchmark in the healthcare industry. The grading system is peer-reviewed, transparent, and free to the public. It assigns letter grades – A through F – based on a hospital’s ability to prevent harm and ensure quality outcomes.

Fort Washington Medical Center’s "A" grade reflects recent investments in staff training, technology upgrades, and enhanced clinical protocols, hospital officials said. This achievement is particularly notable in light of the ongoing challenges healthcare facilities have faced in the post-pandemic landscape.

Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, praised hospitals like Fort Washington for going the extra mile to protect patients. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a sign that hospitals are continuously learning and prioritizing patient safety at every level,” Binder said in a statement. “We congratulate Fort Washington Medical Center for this achievement.”

The full list of hospital grades is available at www.hospitalsafetygrade.org, where the public can view how hospitals in their area are performing.

This marks a significant milestone for Fort Washington Medical Center, further establishing its role as a trusted healthcare provider in Prince George’s County and the greater Maryland region.
