Over 1,000 county residents joined family and friends of the new county leadership to usher in new executive and legislative office holders and to witness history.
The 13th Inaugural Ceremony for the Prince George’s County Government was held Dec 3 at Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro bringing County Executive-Elect Angela D. Alsobrooks and eleven members of the Prince George’s County Council into office.
“We worked over the last eight years to further the transformation of Prince George’s County into an economic powerhouse in our region,” said County Council Chair Dannielle Glaros (D-District 3). “The legacy of our predecessors and countless other public servants has laid the foundation we are blessed to build upon today.”
Glaros stepped down as chair Dec. 4 as the new council voted Councilman Todd Turner (D-District 4) as new chair. Council Member Rodney Streeter (D-District 7) was elected to serve as Vice Chair.
In a highly charged speech, Alsobrooks who was accompanied onstage by her daughter Alexandra, fired up the audience by reminding them of the county’s strong history of pioneering leaders and resilient residents.
A life-long county resident herself, Alsobrooks stood on Prince George’s pride when she explained that the jurisdiction is finally gaining the recognition it deserves.
“After many years, others now know what we’ve known all along: Prince George’s County is a great place to invest. We are the economic engine of the state and this truly is the place to be. Prince George’s County, look in the mirror: we are a success.”
Alsobrooks was sworn in as the eighth county executive and the first woman to hold the office. She was elected by an overwhelming margin after serving two terms as the county’s elected State’s Attorney.
