Council Member Sydney Harrison Holds First Town Hall Meeting
Hundreds of District 9 residents attended Council Member Sydney Harrison’s first town hall meeting, “Bridging the Gap Together,” Mar. 27 at the Tree of Life Christian Ministries in Clinton.
Harrison presented his vision and action plans for District 9 communities. Those plans included building constituent services in the district by being responsive and transparent as well as focusing on public health, public safety, transportation, education and workforce development. At-Large Council Member Mel Franklin, District 8 Council Member Monique Anderson-Walker, and Clerk of the Court Mahasin El Amin were among county officials and stakeholders who also attended.
Harrison thanked the many representatives from County departments and agencies, his colleagues and other elected officials, community partners and District 9 residents for participating.
Although Harrison is in his first term as a county council member, this is not his first rodeo in service to Prince George’s County. Placed into foster care at an early age and adopted into a loving family, Harrison grew up with the desire to give back and help those who had no voice of their own. In his earlier years he organized toy drives, international cultural exchanges and community projects for youth. Former Clerk of the Circuit Court Harrison turned an overwhelmed office with a 3,800 case backlog in paternity and child support cases into an efficient, well-staffed department with improved customer service and response time.
As Harrison’s friend Eric Bowman said in a 2016 interview with Prince George’s Suite Magazine, “He will be the [kind of] catalyst that will help push Prince George’s County forward.”
