Child’s Play
Through The Eyes Of Jacob Lawrence
The final bell rings for the summer and school is out! Just in time for children ages 6-9 years old to participate in a children’s painting workshop on June 29. The workshop, “School’s Out, Art’s In” is an art event that teaches children how to create colored patterns inspired by the intocut geometric designs of African American Painter Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000), known for the bold colors and geometric shapes portrayed in his works.
A local artist will lead “School’s Out, Art’s In” and teach children how to be visually inspired by the artistry of Lawrence to create paintings of their own to keep.
Overdue Recognition Art Gallery, Bowie, Maryland’s first African American art gallery hosts the event. Established in 2004, Overdue Recognition Art Gallery proudly represents over 40 renowned and emerging African American artists.
