The King Holiday: It's About Service
First Baptist Church of Glenarden to Complete Dozens of Community Service Projects Around the DMV During Its Second Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Jan 20
It’s foremost in many minds to honor Rev Dr. Martin Luther King for his accomplishments for equality. But the Nobel Prize winner himself said: ‘If I can help someone else, then my living would not be in vain.’ Although he made the ultimate sacrifice toward that end on April 4, 1968, the civil rights leader’s commitment to sacrifice and service was always at the center of Dr. King’s life’s work.
And that commitment continues with First Baptist Church of Glenarden.
First Baptist Church of Glenarden will hold its second annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Jan. 20, 2020 from 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. More than 1,500 volunteers will participate in a number of service projects throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area in honor of King’s life and legacy.
Volunteer projects will include painting, clean-up, landscaping, beautification projects, writing letters of kindness, and assembling baby care kits and flood buckets for natural disaster relief. First Baptist Church of Glenarden will also partner with organizations such as Convoy of Hope, 13 Prince George’s County Public Schools, the Washington Hebrew Congregation and Central Union in this effort.
