District 2 Takes Action in Helping to Better the Prince George’s County Community
By Kia Lisby
The District 2 Office has been making moves to help better the Prince George’s County community with Council Member Deni Taveras (D) taking great initiative.
Prince George’s County recently joined Welcoming America and kicked off its first celebration of Welcoming Week Sept. 12 – 20.
Welcoming America is a national nonprofit organization built on the foundation of inclusion and bringing all people, including immigrants, together in communities.
Taveras partnered with the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) to host a series of virtual events commemorating the week-long celebration and bring together four area artists to discuss how the immigrant experience informs their work.
The week of events will conclude with the Census Caravan Day of Action. For residents who have not completed the census, the Caravan will visit the following District 2 neighborhoods Saturday, Sept. 19: Adelphi at 10 am, Langley Park at 12 pm, and Hyattsville at 2 pm.
Residents may also complete the census by visiting https://my2020census.gov/ or call 844-330-2020.
Taveras has also partnered with Triumphant Church and the Prince George’s County Department of Family Services to distribute 250 frozen catered, pre-packaged meals to senior residents (60 years and older) in District 2. Seniors will receive 1 breakfast and 3 lunches. The Seniors Grab & Go distribution will be held Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 am - 12 pm at Triumphant Church, located at 4603 Eastern Ave NE, Mt Rainier, MD 20712.
To be eligible to receive meals, register at this link or contact Renee White, Constituent Services and Community Outreach Liaison, at 301-952-4436 or RYWhite@co.pg.md.us.
