New Behavioral Health Unit Coming: The Maryland Health Care Commission Approved An Adult Inpatient Unit At Luminis Health In Lanham
Thanks to a $20 million grant from the county, Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center’s (LHDCMC) in Lanham, MD, was approved for a new two-story, 31,200 square-foot facility.
Located on the campus of LHDCMC, it will include inpatient psychiatric care for adults, outpatient therapy and medication management, walk-in urgent care, psychiatric day treatment programs (partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient), family support services, prevention programs, and care coordination with community-based support services.
“We appreciate the Maryland Health Care Commission’s thoughtful review of this project. The comprehensive mental health care facility will provide a setting for patients and families that is secure, private, and dedicated entirely to the comprehensive care and treatment of persons suffering from mental illness right here in Prince George’s County,” said Deneen Richmond, president of LHDCMC. “These services are critically needed in our community. Today’s positive vote means we can move forward with our plans.”
In April, LHDCMC broke ground on the first phase of the mental health facility to include outpatient services and programs. Construction of the inpatient unit begins this fall, with doors opening to the community in the winter. Phase one of outpatient programs is expected to be complete in spring 2022.
“We are excited that this critical next step in the behavioral health facility is moving forward, and we want to thank the Maryland Health Care Commission for supporting this project and the behavioral health needs of Prince Georgians,” said Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks.
