Funding For Fire And EMS
Nearly $4 Million In Covid Relief Federal Funding Approved To Assist Minority Communities
It was clear, even in the early days of the pandemic that minorities, were at greater risk of infection and death from Covid-19, now federal dollars have been poured into Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department’s Office of Minority Health in an effort to have better resources to handle the pandemic.
“We are pleased that the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department has been awarded nearly $4 million in funding to assist minority communities in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the lawmakers. “This funding is critical to enhancing COVID-19 testing, tracing, and mitigation measures in communities of color and rural populations in our county. We thank the tireless work of the firefighters and EMS professionals during this public health emergency, and believe this additional round of funding will go a long way in protecting our most vulnerable communities.”
The announcement of the act was made earlier this week and approved by Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-Dist. 5), Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Congressman Anthony Brown (MD-04), that would provide $3,999,807 in funding for the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department’s Office of Minority Health. The funding is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act that was established through the Prince George’s County Health Literacy Enhancement for COVID CARES.
